Bear Cup Results Greetings from the sunny lake Pyhäjärvi. This year the Bear Cup contest was once again flown in quite perfect conditions. The morning was cold, -15C, but temperature rose to -5C for the day. Most of the day was calm, to an extend that in made glider towing difficult. For the flyoffs we got some drift. At times the skies were overcast, but much of the time the sun was shining. The snow conditions were a little difficult, with a hard crust on the snow (due to past weekends rain followed by the freezing temperatures). This was not solid enough to walk on, and a number of glider flights failed as the tower fell down to the uneven snow under foot (been there, done that...). For a walker, the retrieving conditions were hard, but for a skier or snow scooter just perfect. In glider, 32 to the flyoff, 6 made 5 minutes and 2 made 7. In the final fly-off Per Findahl made a perfect, high launch with his short span flapper, to claim clear victory over Mikhail Konosotchkin. Ardo Pärna took the third "bear" to take home. In F1B, 11 made a full score, and 6 made 5 minutes. On the second fly-off, Bror Eimar was the clear winner, with Yrjö Waltonen taking second place and Tonu Luman third. In F1C, Kaarle Kuukka and Juri Roots made it to the fly-off, both flying fixed-wing Verbitski models. Juri made a perfect launch one after another, while Kaarle tended to be a bit shallow on the bunt. Kaarles motors were hotter though, so his extra altitude was sufficient to give an edge, despite a few stalls before settling to glide. I have just downloaded and printed the agenda for the upcoming CIAM Plenary meeting, to be held April 16th and 17th. Anyone wishing to view it can go to FAI.org, click on meetings, then on 2010 Plenary meeting. The entire document is 92 pages long, so to prevent burning up you printer, skip down to page 21, where the F1 stuff starts.
